About Samsung refrigerators

In 2016 Samsung was the winner of  Canstar Blue’s customer satisfaction – refrigerators survey. The brand received solid 5 star ratings across almost all drivers of satisfaction, including reliability, value for money, food freshness, internal layout and quality of fixtures and fitting. It’s a very impressive result.

The people behind the Samsung name

Samsung began in 1938 as a small trading company that sold noodles and dried seafood. Samsung Electronics was founded in 1969 in South Korea, beginning by producing TVs. Samsung now ranks as a top 10 global brand.

Samsung is a large, family-owned corporation or a ‘chaebol’, which means ‘wealth clan’ in Korean. This allows them to invest in developing new technology instead of just producing an endless line of static products.

Their mission is to make life better for people around the world, and it does this by sponsoring many different community development projects. For example, in 2012 they sponsored the London Paralympic Games and developed the eyeCam, an eye-tracking mouse for the disabled.

Samsung is also committed to sustainability and was the only Asian company to be one of the ten global companies listed in the Carbon Disclosure Leadership Index (CDLI). Its current slogan is ‘Turn On Tomorrow’.

Some of Samsung’s refrigerator innovations

Samsung first began producing refrigerators in 1974, along with washing machines.

1976: Samsung introduced the energy-efficient High Cold refrigerator.

2012: The ‘door-in-door’ concept arrives! Food ShowCase Door is introduced to the new line. It’s an extra door within the first door, to contain the items you use most often so you don’t have to rummage through the larger items to get to your favourite drinks and sauces. Fridgeception…

2014: Samsung’s Wi-Fi enabled refrigerator screen lets users make and receive phone calls, and watch TV transferred from other rooms while you’re cooking.

2015: The Cool Select Zone is introduced – a second crisper drawer where you can adjust the temperature from fridge level to freezer level and in between.
